WHY GO SOLO ADVENTURING?!
There’s something about solo adventuring that hits different. It’s not just the freedom or the peace it’s that feeling of being completely in your own presence and actually loving it.
When I first started going solo, I won’t lie I was nervous. The “what ifs” creep in: What if something goes wrong? What if I get lonely? But once you do it, those thoughts start to fade. You realise how capable you are, how calm you can be on your own, and how good it feels to just be with yourself.
Being out there solo forces you to slow down and trust yourself. You’re the one making the calls, setting up camp, and figuring things out as you go and that builds confidence like nothing else. You stop doubting yourself because you’ve already proven you can handle it.
It’s also empowering in ways you don’t expect. Waking up to the sound of the ocean, making your morning coffee in silence, driving a new track with no one to follow you start to realise your own company is enough. You don’t need to wait for anyone else to say “let’s go.” You just go.
For me, solo adventuring has shaped who I am and what Her Trax stands for encouraging women to get out there, even if it means doing it alone. It’s not about being fearless; it’s about doing it anyway. That’s where the real growth happens.
💗 My Tips for Getting Started with Solo Adventures
If you’ve been thinking about heading off on your first solo trip, here’s what helped me build confidence and ease into it:
-
Start small
You don’t have to go remote straight away. Pick a spot close to home that you already know or have been to with friends before. It’s a good way to get comfortable setting up camp and just being in your own space.
-
Plan your route
Always have an idea of where you’re going, what the conditions are like, and how far the next town or fuel stop is. It’s not about over planning just being prepared.
-
Go with what you know
Stick with the basics and your usual gear, food, and setup for the first few trips. Don’t try to test out a lot of new things when you’re alone, test it out first at home. Keep it simple and familiar.
-
Learn to love the quiet
The silence can feel weird at first, but it quickly becomes one of the best parts. Bring a book, journal, or your favourite playlist it’s about creating calm, not filling the space.
⚡ Safety Tips I Always Follow
Safety is a huge part of solo travel, especially as a woman. I always take these extra steps to feel secure and confident when I’m out there:
-
Share your plans. Always tell someone you trust where you’re going and when you plan to be back. I also share my live location with a friend or family member.
-
Don’t share your real-time location online. Post once you’ve left not while you’re still there.
-
Keep your driver’s seat clear. If anything feels off, you can jump straight in and go.
-
Check the area before you set up camp. Make sure it feels right trust your gut.
-
UHF radio is a must when off-grid. Whether you’re solo or in a group, it’s great for communication and safety when there’s no reception.
-
Keep your keys and torch within reach. I always have mine right next to my sleeping setup.
-
Have a safety keychain or alarm. It’s a simple but effective confidence booster.
Going solo doesn’t mean you’re alone it means you’re choosing to show up for yourself in the best way possible. Once you experience that peace and confidence that comes with being in your own presence… you’ll never look back.
